When do­ing the se­lec­tion pro­cess for the ma­ter­i­al in your archive, it is of enorm­ous help of hav­ing a check­list with the most im­port­ant ques­tions about the item to be ad­ded. This list is op­tim­ized for the cas­u­al per­former and hob­by­ist, the pros will have their own way of do­ing the se­lec­tions already.

 

It is very easy to work with. Whatever it is you want to add to your archives, may it be routines, tricks, props, gim­micks, sleights, books or video ma­ter­i­al, first go through this list and an­swer those ques­tions hon­estly. Use the check boxes. Fi­nally, com­pare the amount of “yes” with the “nos”.

More “yes” and the thing prob­ably is worth adding. The oth­er way round: bet­ter for­get it (garbage can or bull­shit list). I have been us­ing this check­list for years and it really helps. It makes you think about the stuff in depth, hope­fully im­prov­ing your se­lec­tion mak­ing skills.

Even­tu­ally, your archive should change into a sol­id work­ing rep­er­toire with good, ef­fect­ive and us­able stuff in­side.
