Now that the end of the old year and the beginning of the new year are nearing, I would like to explain something about the SOLIDMAGIC lighthouse project (and the reasons behind it).
First, a lighthouse has always fascinated me. Maybe not so much for the (most often) uncomfortable living space they supply, but for the philosophy behind this concept. A lighthouse was always something important because it gave guidance and security for the ships. No matter the weather, the lighthouse and its guiding light were there.
I love the thought of being on top of things when in a lighthouse, being on a higher level, and observing the things going on “down there”. From a lighthouse, you have the overview, even of the things to come which cannot be seen from the ground. It is the heightened position that makes it so attractive.
The other thing I like is the notion that a lighthouse is built on a rock-solid base. It withstands the heftiest storms and waves. No matter what the weather is like, the lighthouse stands there and sends out the guiding light.
SOLIDMAGIC is meant to be a small lighthouse in magic. After all those years in magic, both performing and publishing, I was thinking of a way to build a lighthouse which serves as a guide for other magicians. Modern times make this easy by establishing a blog as the main communication platform.
Because we are battling the information overload on a minute-basis, and, therefore, many have lost orientation, I believe something like a lighthouse in magic would be a very good idea. Something to supply orientation, guidance, and overview.
If you have a concept like this, then you’ll realise that there are a ton of things that could be included: tricks, reviews of tricks and gimmicks, reviews of books and magazines, tips for the working performer, real world advice, novel ideas, and lots more.
Included as well would be my 365YOU! project, which is an agenda delivering content daily. In a year, you will get one information a day, which seems to be a good amount to swallow (for one’s hobby).
I have invested a lot of time and energy already, preparing the articles and topics to be covered, which means I am ready to deliver. These are some key points I had in mind when I created the project:
Place to retreat, fun.
No politics – a neutral place
Constant contact with the “ships” (customers, readers)
I will start the project in the beginning of January 2020.
Stay tuned on this blog.
