The magic scene has become somehow insane. A convention here, some event there, a couple of videos, DVDs, new tricks, books to be read, club meeting, gigs, new downloads, new new new … bang! The head explodes. With all that input, how can one still be creative and not just occupied “swallowing” all that information overload?
There is a nice saying by Rollo May :
In order to be open to creativity, one must have the capacity for constructive use of solitude. One must overcome the fear of being alone.
How true! But what to do?
Accept the fact that creativity most of the times happens and grows in solitude?
Take action and actually move to such a place?
No internet, no phone, no TV … nothing?
Paper, pencil, brains?
Water, silence, sleep?
Breathe. Think. Grow?
Long overdue?
I had this sort of thing for some time in Torino at Don Silvio Mantelli’s place. It was one of the most creative times of my life.
Miss it dearly …
