Enough

Recent­ly I acquired a very inter­est­ing read: John Naish’s book ‘Enough’. It’s main top­ics are about get­ting the idea of ‘hav­ing enough’.

Whilst being a ’non-mag­ic’ book, it is a very inspir­ing and thought pro­vok­ing read for us magi­cians, who are fac­ing the same prob­lems of over-sat­u­ra­tion, infor­ma­tion over­load and ‘I‑need-that-new-gim­mick-trick-gadet’.

Nev­er before in the his­to­ry of mag­ic has the mag­ic mar­ket been so huge. The dig­i­tal age also makes it so easy for the mar­keters in this branche to bom­bard us with (most­ly use­less) infor­ma­tion on a dai­ly, even hourly base. There­fore, the adept has to learn to fil­ter infor­ma­tion and resist the temp­ta­tion to get more and more (fol­low­ing our nat­ur­al instincts).

This book helps immense­ly to achieve that goal: to do, enjoy and per­form mag­ic with­out being a slave of the deal­ers and the mag­ic indus­try. Real good mag­ic can be per­formed with­out the newest ‘hip’ things and props.

Because mag­ic is not about props that the deal­ers want us to buy (so they get rich­er and rich­er). The mag­ic indus­try evolved into a dan­ger­ous ani­mal full of seduc­tions. One needs to active­ly fight against that. This book will be of help to rethink our buy­ing behav­iour in mag­ic and reshape our aware­ness and pri­or­i­ties.

Using the prin­ci­ples and tips out­lined in this book will defin­i­tive­ly save us pre­cious time and ener­gy. Through that, we gain more time and ener­gy for work­ing on our mag­ic, which in turn makes us bet­ter magi­cians on the long run.
