In 2018, I wrote the book "Workbook for Cup Magic." At the time, I simply wanted a straightforward booklet that would explain the absolute basics to my students, so they could properly start developing a routine with cup magic. The content was chosen based on what my students needed.
Now, it has evolved into something more. Times change, and so do technical possibilities. I’ve finally found a way to combine a PDF with videos into a single file, and I think the combination of a PDF with simultaneous videos of the moves is fantastic—time-saving and effective. This publication also differs from many YouTube videos, where moves are often demonstrated or explained incorrectly or inadequately. I go into great detail in the descriptions, and the demo videos show exactly how it should look.
In this treatise, you’ll learn the absolute fundamentals that anyone attempting cup magic (or the Chop Cup!) must master. Over the past few years, I’ve noticed that these basics are often missing or executed sloppily, which naturally detracts from the routine.
What you won’t find in this booklet are endless variations and complicated sequences of moves (most of which are unnecessary anyway). I focus only on the truly important, essential moves that you’ll use in (I’d say) 90% of real-world situations (at least in my experience) and explain them in detail. I dare say that with just the material and moves offered here, you can create an outstanding cup routine. Once you’ve mastered these basics, you’ll find it much easier to incorporate other variations and more complex versions into your repertoire. There are countless examples in the literature.
Now, you have the opportunity to thoroughly engage with these fundamentals and master them. You’ll see how quickly you’ll start enjoying your new cup routine!
However, I’d like to reiterate what I’ve also mentioned in the PDF: Do yourself a favor and start with a simple routine using two cups, just as I’ve explained in the PDF. Feel free to use the small pouch described in the PDF, which sits on your lap, at first. Once you’ve mastered the technique with the pouch, you can move on to placing the final loads in your jacket pockets or under your lap. There’s no need to make things unnecessarily difficult at the beginning! By using this small pouch, you free up your mind to focus on what really matters: the timing of the final loads.
One last recommendation: Take your time to read through the PDF first (you can always sneak a peek at a video), so you understand exactly what it’s about. This will make practicing the moves with the help of the videos even more enjoyable. I wish you great success, which will surely come soon!
P.S.: I intentionally left the PDF in the same format as the original printed book, so those who have already purchased the book will feel familiar with it and find their way around easily.
